Current Units of Study:
Reading: We are currently learning about historic nonfiction texts through the lens of research projects and debates on the American Revolution! Throughout this unit, students have been learning valuable research techniques that will help them to synthesize information, take notes independently, and evaluate resources.
Writing: In our current unit, students are writing informational books that combine everything they have learned this year on all-abouts, essay writing, and fiction writing, while also learning about paragraph and sentence structure. Students will also use various nonfiction text features to enhance their books such as a table of contents, glossary, pictures, captions, and diagrams.
Math: Students are currently learning about everything fractions! Fourth grade standards require students to know how to represent fractions using various models, find equivalent fractions, add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers, and multiply whole numbers with fractions.
Social Studies: Students are discovering what life after the end of the American Revolution. How did our country build its government, and how does it function? How did the issue of states' rights give rise to the beginning of the Civil War? Students will use primary and secondary resources to piece together this important time in our nation's history.
