Welcome to Class K-107
Ms. Julie, Ms. Nurys and Ms. Jen would like to send our warmest greetings to all the wonderful parents of the students in K-107. We are having an excellent time learning and we want to share everything we do with all of you.
- Students should read at home everyday for 5 minutes.
- Students should take book baggies home and return them to school everyday.
- Students should complete homework packets every week.
- Students should bring Homework (Green) folders everyday.
- Students should bring healthy (low sugar/ low calories) snacks everyday.
Here is a look at our daily learning!
Currently Students are working on sounding like readers (using words such as: One day, Suddenly, then, and then, in the end, etc.) and exploring story books. Each day students read independently for seven minutes to build reading stamina. Students also take part in literacy center, where they practice writing sight words, work with a teacher, listen to story books on a CD or listen to a read aloud while answering questions.
In writing, students are writing true stories. Students can write about going to the park, going shopping with their grown ups or things they do in school. Students have successfully drawn representational drawings with labels. They are learning how to write sentences that match their pictures, tell their readers more about their stories and sharing with writing partners.
In math, Students are learning how to measure using different objects. They have measured with a balance scale, rulers, cubes, pennies and even beans! Mathematicians are becoming measuring masters!
Social Studies is a chance for students to learn about what makes them special and explore their community. Students recently learned a special song about being special. They are learning about what makes people the same and different. We are also learning about History from the New York Historical Society. K-107 learned that children went to school and used different materials to learn.
Choice and Craft Time
Craft and choice time is a chance for students to explore their creativity and play after a long week of learning. But through play, they are learning to share, maintain a respectful voice volume, and how to be responsible classmates by helping each other clean up.
Cookshop and Coalition For Healthy Living
We have chef in the making in K-107! They will be learning about plant- based food, how to make healthy snacks and which food gives kids good energy for learning. We will also be sending home activities for families to do together.
